a training day in review.

What we’ve learned so far:

We’re less of a people person than we thought.  We’re more of a buyer than a seller.  Trying on clothes we can’t afford isn’t so fun after all.  We would never think of shoplifting, but after watching the new-hire training video, we now know how to.  These shoes hurt.  We sure do have to sign a lot of papers to be making just over minimum wage.  These clothes would look so cute on the rich us.  Who are we kidding, these clothes look painfully cute on the broke us. They lied about the 50 percent discount. Apparently, we will not be forced to spend our hard earned dollars on a brand new wardrobe.  We hate it when we’re smarter than our manager.  We secretly liked the idea of being able to blame a new wardrobe on a mandate, as opposed to a compulsion. They are right, “stylist” is much cuter than sales associate. But then “stylists” should be making commission. Recession, what recession?  People are shopping on a Wednesday, at 3 in the afternoon. Women will pay more for black pants named after make-believe girls with trust funds, than those named simply “black pant”.  We want a pair of black pants named after us. That jacket is cute. 30 percent off ain’t gonna cut it.  We need another job just to work at this one.
